Ozone Therapy

Ozone Insufflation Therapy

How does it work?

When ozone comes into contact with body fluids, the resulting reactions form more proteins and red blood cells. This increases oxygen supply in your body.  Ozone therapy may also disrupt unhealthy processes in your body. Research has shown that ozone therapy can inactivate bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast, and protozoa.

Ozone is a natural gas and is heavier than air. In the beginning it was used for disinfecting medical tools, and is still used to do that. But now research has found that there are a whole host of therapeutic benefits. When ozone gets into the body it forms reactive oxygen species and these species react with the white blood and red blood cells which increases tissue oxygen supply. By this it offers enhanced healing in the body.

Types of Ozone

Rectal Insufflation: The flow of ozone gas applied to the gut is converted into oxygen, eliminates free radicals and is enormously effective against pathogenic microbes, promoting a healthy microbiota that thrives in an oxygen-rich environment.
Nasal insufflation: Ozone (with olive oil bubbler – ozonides, not straight ozone. Breathing straight ozone can irritate the lungs and cause coughing) is supplied through nasal cannulas for a period of time. Best for allergies.
Ear insufflation: Ozone is introduced to the ear canal and enters the lymphatic and blood system. Many patients have reported a wide variety of results including relief of allergies, relief of colds, clearing of sore throats and swollen glands.
Prolozone: This is a regular prolotherapy injection followed by ozone injections into the same area.
Trigger point ozone injections:  Ozone can be injected to treat pain following a regular trigger point injection of any type i.e. neural therapy, neural prolo, homeopathic, straight anesthetic.
Wound Bagging: For non-healing wounds, dermal infections, or warts. The wound is covered with an ozone-resistant bag and exposed to the gas.

Benefits of Ozone Therapy

Research in 2018 it says that it has been used for many years to treat a wide variety of issues including: inactivate various viruses, cancer, and acquired immune deficiency syndrome but is now making strides in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, lumbar facet joint syndrome, subacromial bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis, hip bursitis, shoulder adhesive capsulitis, herniated disc, and temporomandibular joint disorder.

Research done in 2011 shows that it has the benefits of healing infected wounds, circulatory disorders, geriatric conditions, macular degeneration, viral diseases, rheumatism/arthritis, cancer, SARS and AIDS.

Several studies (from Cuba, Italy, Germany, Russia, and Spain) and years of experience have shown that ozone (O3) is capable of modulating inflammation and pain, in addition to having demonstrated a bactericidal, fungicidal, virucidal, and antiparasitic effect. These antimicrobial properties have made ozone recognized as a disinfectant so effective that it is used in many water purification plants worldwide. In this context, in a recent review, Fernández-Cuadros et al. reasonably considered that ozone has a place in the management of the present SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, due to its virucidal, immunomodulatory, stimulating cellular and humoral immunity properties, and as a facilitator of O2 transport in hypoxemic tissues.
